Registration of Kampot-kep Salt as a Geographical Indication

Kampot-kep Salt has been registered as a Producted Geographical Indication in Cambodia in April 2023. It was the 5th Cambodian GI products that registered in Cambodia. Kampot-kep Salt in currently in the process of preparation for its registration as a Geographical Indication in the European Union.

Thanks to the protection offered by the GI, consumers who Kampot-kep Salt benefit from a full guarantee on the quality and origin of the product:

  • Sea Salt comes only from eligible Producers in the GI delimited area;
  • The production in implemented following the book of specifications;
  • A complete of the productd in regularly checked and verified;
  • The quality of the product is regularly checked and verified;
  • A complete of the productd in regularly checked and verified;
  • Compliance with good practices, quality, and traceabilty are verified by an independent certificatuon body (third party) recognized at the internatuonal level.;

    • Due to traditional production methods compulsory for the of GI, Kampot-kep Salt is still productd by smallholder farmers who are assured of fair remuneration for their work.
